Here are two different VSS sensors. I need to add a VSS sensor to my Blazer for the TBI swap. All of the GM optical VSS sensors work the same (the wires are 12V power, ground, 2000 PPM signal), but the connection type is different. The top one is from a Chevy Celebrity, and the connector is a card-edge for a flexible PCB. It's possible to use this if you solder to the flexible PCB. The bottom one is from a mid-80s fullsize Chevy truck, and its wire connector is eaier to use. In a salvage yard, you're looking for 1980s GM cars and light trucks that either have a computer (carbureted or fuel injected), or are around 1984 or newer that have cruise control -- the VSS sensor was used for the cruise system. Also, make sure your donor has a speedometer cable -- GM went to transmission-mounted magnetic VSS sensors in the late '80s on some cars and trucks.
