This is the power door lock motor on the driver's side rear door, disassembled. Water apparently entered the motor housing and caused the motor case to surface-rust. It also cause the motor shaft to stick. Removing, cleaning, and re-greasing seems to have fixed it. I sealed the case with auto strip caulk.
