Cycle Shack Slip-on Mufflers Installed

On the advice of the XL-List, I chose to install Cycle Shack's slip-on mufflers that replace the stock parts. I ordered the tapered version 64-437 from Jireh Cycles, which came to $92.95 plus $0.90 insurance (and free shipping!).

The installation is fairly straghtforward. The procedure is detailed in the factory service manual for removing and reinstalling the exhaust. I removed the entire exhaust system from the bike, because I wasn't sure if I could get the front muffler off of its mounting stud and off of the pipe while the rest of the system was in place. If you can rotate the front muffler off of the stud, the headpipes could probably stay.

I like the stock exhaust look, and I wanted to retain that look while getting a performance boost and better sound. The Cycle Shack tapered mufflers look like the stock mufflers, except that they're shorter and are smaller in outside diameter. Unless it's sitting next to a stock bike, I doubt anyone would know they've been changed until I start it!

A before shot for comparison -- note how much further the stock mufflers extend:
