I have had the stock 2-up 1200S seat on my bike for the first 1000 miles. I have not had any complaints with the seating position, look, or comfort. However, I wanted some storage so I could take my lunch to work, or a small pack for weekend trips. I didn't want saddlebags right now (though they will likely be added in the future), so I decided I wanted a luggage rack.
At the same time, I really liked the clean look of the standard 883 solo seat. Since I don't ride 2-up, I decided to get a solo seat for my bike and add a rack. A co-worker had a stock solo seat from an '89 Sportster, but it didn't fit -- the tab on the front of the frame missed engaging the seat by a full inch. I've seen seats advertised that fit XL 1983-2003, but unless they have different brackets for newer bikes, it probably won't fit that entire year range.
So, I bought a new 2003 883 solo seat off of eBay. The seat had never been used, since it was removed prior to customer pick-up. I have installed the seat, and took a picture of the bike.
I ordered a rack from Motherwell Products. It took exactly one week for it to arrive, and I installed it.
