I have wanted a Solstice since I first saw a prototype on display at the NSRA Steet Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY a couple of years before they were available for sale. I love convertibles, having had two before it (an '84 Cavalier Type 10, mostly rust, and my 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24. However, when they were announced for sale, a new car was not in the picture for me so I had to wait. I've wanted a 2-seat roadster for a long time, but at around 6'2" I just don't fit in most of them. I'm a die-hard GM fan but I'll entertain other brands -- meaning the Miata for a roadster -- except I don't fit. The steering wheel hits my legs, and the ones I've seen do not have tilt steering. I might fit in a Honda S2000 but they're still too expensive for me. Besides, I'd rather have a GM car, so the Solstice fits the bill. Now that the Solstice has a couple of years of manufacturing under its belt, they are around on the used market for decent money. After hitting Auto Trader for a bit, I found one that interested me, and after some negotiation, I bought it on Saturday 2/28/09. That wasn't the best day to buy a car -- we had a small rain/sleet/ice storm that afternoon -- but the car did fine in the weather. The car is just about completely loaded. It's almost easier to describe what it's missing than what it has. Namely, it does not have the 6-disc changer, the Monsoon audio system, or the FE3 suspension. Highlights of what it does have:
